Garmin Forerunner/Edge 301 - my experience

08 01 2009 onTHErun
I'm using the garmin forerunner/edge 301 (european product name/american product name) for round about 2 years now. Over that time my opinion on the device went from total ectasy (wow this is rocket science, a gps on my wrist) over awareness (hmm it's not as accurate as i wish it was and doesn't work very well in the woods/under trees) to frustration (why the $%&/ is the screen blank all the time, even after a reset and battery is charged) to resignation (when the device decides to turn the display up side down I will accept it's free will...

If somebody else also is resetting the device until his fingers bleed because of a blank screen: try shaking the 301. I'm serious. In my case it has been a defective contact. Ok, well, the 301 took one or another hit while "in action"(no visible physical damage, just bumped into something or dropped the 301). Still that's very sad. The battery is actually quite good and could last at least another year of usage and I would say that 3 years of lifetime is not asked too much for a device that costed about 200 Euros and is not used on a daily basis (only for workouts 2-3 times a week for one two hours).

However, I can't work out without rocket science on my wrist and I want a reliable device so i ordered the successor, the forerunner 305. I especially exepect some improvement with the new GPS-Receiver as the forerunner 301 often had problems in the street canyons here. So what do I do with the old forerunner 301? I do what everybody does with electronic devices that have hidden faults: sell them on ebay!
